Tampa...day 4

today was pretty dull down here...but thats unfortunately become the norm so i wasn't too concerned. got in some good sun time...which naturally resulted in a nice burn across my chest. but i'm again, not too concerned. basically, the irish in me causes me to get a bit red, but the italian in me stops that red from peeling. it should fade to a nice tan. i feel a little silly with such a stark contrast between where my swimsuit covers and were it doesn't haha!

this evening, we headed to the baseball game. the yankees (down here for spring training) were playing the blue jays. it was a nice night, got a little chilly, but overall pretty nice. my uncle, some woman named LaToya and i were the only ones who went. not really a grandma kind of thing. we had great seats: four rows from the dugout. we were over the toronto dug out so i didn't know any of the players but it was still kinda neat. gotta watch out for those foul balls though. in fact, it would have been perfect except for the fact that i hate baseball. it just goes so slowly! also, i'm not really much of a fan for any professional sports. they just seem so overpayed that i don't like them. college is much better.

the ACC tournament started tonight...too bad i didn't get to see it! Virginia was playing Florida State i think. i want to say we lost but i feel like i always sell the cavaliers short. when i think they'll lose by a lot, it turns out to be a heartbreaker of a game. weird. of course, we are ranked last in the ACC so i don't know...

i've discovered that my uncle doug is actually as enigmatic as my uncle danny. that sucks cause doug was supposed to be the "cool" uncle. basically, danny is crazy, but doug has a real attitude. like he is always right and thats all there is to it. sucks. i mean, you try to have a conversation with him but it turns into a lecture. whatever.

i think the best person to talk to in my family is either my dad or his sister Katie. basically, stay away from the guido's!!! all the members of the o'grady clan are pretty level headed...well, other than my cousin wendy (the divorced, unemployed mother of two who is living with katie). they're just really diplomatic. my granddad is pretty logical (he can solve any puzzle you give him), my dad is just fantastic with problems, and katie is the one i can talk to about random stuff.

aunt katie is pretty interesting on her own. i think she sort of felt like she had a "gilmore" girl kind of thing going with wendy when she was younger. katie has been married like 6 times so it was usually just the two of them who were stable. katie took the foreign service exam, scored in the highest bracket, but then didn't explore a future in it. she just took the test to see how she'd do... odd. and now that she is having her daughter and granddaughters living with her and her husband, lindy, i think she is feeling a little dissappointed with how her daughter's life has turned out.

watching wendy go through all the mistakes she's made in her life, has really shown me what i want in the future. here's the abbridged version of the story: wendy meets zak on st. patrick's day in a bar, he's an army ranger, they elope that august (despite everyone telling them to have a traditional wedding...i mean, come on...she's my aunts only child...it would have been nice), then zak leaves the military, they move from lovely suvannah to horrible las vegas, the military will pay for zak's education but wendy gets pregnant so she makes him get a job instead, so his dreams are on hold, this causes issues, she has the baby (gracie), then gets pregnant again, he enrolls in train conductor school, she leaves him, she claims he hit her, she has the second baby (rosie), moves in with her mom and stepdad, starts working part time, zak moves to suvannah to try to win her back, the end.

ugh...that just seems like my idea of stupid planning and basically hell. thats why i want to wait to have kids until i can fully support them. otherwise, its not really fair to them. poor wendy...i hope she gets her head on straight before katie kills her. basically she's driving my aunt crazy because she doesn't want to get back together with zak (we doubt he hit her...cause that didn't surface until recently...and only mentioned once) but she also doesn't want to get a job to support her kids. she wants to be a stay at home mom...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

ugh. aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh family!!!!!!!!!
